Austin Building Austin: How Austin Light Rail is Shaping the Future of the City with Procore
Austin is one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the United States, and with a population that has nearly doubled since 2000, the need for a robust transit system has never been greater. Austin Light Rail Phase 1 is helping to answer that call, providing an all-new transit experience that runs reliably every 5 to 10 minutes to connect people to major job centers, education hubs and iconic destinations.
Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) — the local government corporation created to lead the planning, design, construction and implementation of the $7.1 billion project — plans to begin construction in 2027.
Designed to expand as the community grows, Austin Light Rail Phase 1 represents a pivotal investment in Austin’s future, aiming to enhance mobility, foster economic growth, and create a more connected city. At Procore, we’re honored to be part of this endeavor, ensuring its success through our industry-leading construction management platform. With our largest office located in the heart of downtown Austin, we are not only supporting the city’s growth but also actively contributing to its continued development.

Building a More Connected City
Austin Light Rail Phase 1 includes a nearly 10-mile light rail line with 15 stations, a new bridge over Lady Bird Lake, and expanded pedestrian and cycling pathways. Operating on its own dedicated railway, the line will allow riders to zip through the heart of Austin without having to sit in traffic — significantly reducing travel times to key destinations.
The project is expected to create 10,000 jobs, and data show that more than 2,000 Texas businesses across the state can provide the goods and services needed to build Austin Light Rail and could compete to do business with ATP.
Procore’s Role in Delivering Infrastructure at Scale
From the outset, ATP recognized the need for a construction management platform that could handle the complexity and scale of this project. Procore emerged as the best choice due to our ability to provide real-time collaboration, risk mitigation, and comprehensive project oversight, which positioned us as the ideal partner.
Our involvement in the Austin Light Rail project exemplifies Procore’s growing presence in the civil and infrastructure sector. With a dedicated Civil & Infrastructure Industry Specialist team, we worked closely with ATP to understand program expenditures, compliance requirements, and long-term project needs.
A Catalyst for Economic Growth
Beyond its immediate impact on jobs and transit, this project is an economic driver for the city and its surrounding areas. The initiative is expected to catalyze the development of much-needed housing near jobs and transit as well as new offices and retail establishments. The light rail system will create access to more than 200,000 jobs when operational and will make it easier for people to get to some of Austin’s most visited destinations including downtown, the University of Texas at Austin and South Congress.
We believe that infrastructure projects like this are essential to building stronger communities. We’re proud to support ATP in delivering a transit system that will serve as a backbone for Austin’s continued success. As the city builds for the future, we’re here to provide the technology, expertise, and partnership to make it happen.
Together, we build the roads, bridges, and transit networks that connect our communities. By ensuring streamlined project execution, proactive risk management, and long-term scalability, we’re strengthening the foundation of Austin’s future.
