Procore Supports Girls Build after Mike Rowe Shares a Touching Story

Last week, Mike Rowe, the star of Discovery Channel’s ‘Dirty Jobs’ and Procore’s 2017 Groundbreak keynote speaker, joined our CEO, Tooey Courtemanche, in a livestream Q&A about the future of technology and the construction industry. Mike has partnered with Procore on our multi-month Hard Hat Hero campaign.

During the live conversation, Mike shared a story about Katie Hughes and her organization Girls Build. Katie had recently been featured on Mike’s show, Returning the Favor, where Mike and Tiny Innovations gifted Girls Build with a new mobile trailer and tools. Sadly, the trailer was vandalized and the tools were stolen. When Tooey heard the story, he knew he had to make things right and offered to get the ball rolling with a $5,000 contribution.

This week, the Procore team, including Darryl Kysar, Director of Procore.org, Danielle Edberg, Sr. Manager, Industry Advancement and Karen Leib, Workplace Experience, Portland, stopped by to meet Katie and her team and present Tooey’s gift.

Meeting Katie and her team, learning more about Girls Build and touring their workspace was a heartwarming experience for the Procore employees. Girls Build’s focus is to inspire curiosity and confidence in girls from 8-14 years of age, and they do this through summer camps and afterschool programs where girls learn the basics of building—including carpentry, plumbing, electricity, concrete, sheet metal and much more—with the help of skilled female instructors.

For Danielle, this opportunity to meet someone who is empowering young women and providing them with the skills to be successful in the construction industry was especially inspiring.

“Meeting with Katie and the Girls Build team was incredibly inspiring. My focus is empowering and increasing the number of women in the construction industry to grow our collective success – and Katie and her team are doing the same for young girls by exposing them to construction early and teaching them a trade they can be proud of." -Danielle Edberg, Industry Advancement / Women in Construction

Procore is proud to be a part of this amazing effort, partnering with other incredible people across the country who are making donations, to restore the good work Mike Rowe did in “returning the favor."
