The People of Procore: Colin Ngai, Accounting Integrations Services Manager
In this series, we spend time getting to know some of the people who make up the Procore culture.
Colin is an Accounting Integrations Services Manager in Portland, Oregon, bringing over 14 years of industry experience to Procore.
What does your team do at Procore?
Our team is responsible for connecting customer’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system with Procore. This process entails installation, configuration, consultations and everything in between. Introducing a new integration will inevitably change the customer’s current workflow. This can be a stressful period, so we work closely with customers to understand how they use their existing systems and how Procore fits in. Our goal is to ensure we’re providing the best value and making a difference in the way people work.
Why are accounting integrations important for the Procore platform?
The accounting integration is important because it allows our customers to collaborate with their counterparts back in their office efficiently. The integration enables information to flow between the Project Management team and the Accounting department. This means less double entry, less paperwork, and a shortened process all with more accuracy.
How did you come to Procore?
I was working at an accounting software company when the Procore Portland doors first opened in March 2014. I wasn’t actively searching for a new job. In fact, I was quite content with where I was! Work-life balance is essential to me and I felt everything was going fine. But an old coworker and friend, Bobby Moton, reached out and asked if I wanted to jump into a new opportunity with a very new company in town. I was lukewarm at the idea of leaving a comfortable job and passed on the offer more than once. But the idea stuck with me and kept resurfacing. My trust in Bobby and his enthusiasm for the direction of Procore is what eventually convinced me to join Procore as the 4th employee in the Portland office. What’s notable is that almost 40 Portland employees later, team trust and enthusiasm are authentic parts of our team culture.
What is your favorite part of working at Procore?
The people are my favorite aspect of working at Procore. I’ve made a joke with Bobby that if I won the lottery, I would stay at Procore because of how much I care about the people I work with. I feel fortunate to be a part of a company where we are empowered to do what’s best for our customers. Everyone is so open, collaborative, and solution-driven, which makes working with teams that are thousands of miles away much more simple. I also love that the product is exciting and always changing based on our customer’s needs. I know what we’re doing matters when we implement a new feature and I see the excitement of the end-user.
What is something you value in your life?
Being a dad. Continuing to raise two wonderful daughters is without a doubt one of the most significant achievements I’ve ever worked towards. I have a 16 and an 18-year-old, and they are so unique, which presents different challenges to make sure I am parenting to the best of their needs. It’s always been vital for me to be involved in my kid’s lives. I love supporting my youngest daughter playing volleyball and taking my oldest daughter to new restaurants to try. I always make sure to ask them how their day went, so they know I care.
