Who is Your Hard Hat Hero?

We are very excited to announce the launch of our third annual Hard Hat Hero contest. Construction impacts each and every person, from the roads we drive on to the roof over our heads, and we believe that it's important to pause and recognize the people who build our world.

If you know people in construction, you know a Hard Hat Hero. They improve your day in a small way, but do it consistently because a Hard Hat Hero isn’t defined by a single day of hard work, but by a lifetime of showing up.

Nominations are now open for this year’s unsung heroes, those passionate, altruistic construction professionals who personify the values of their industry — expertise, empathy and commitment — and make a lasting and meaningful impact on their industry and community.

Can you think of someone on your jobsite, in your family, or from your community who goes above and beyond, on and off the jobsite? If so, we want to hear about it.

We asked our inaugural winner, Gary Fogerty, what he thinks it takes to be a Hard Hat Hero:

"A Hard Hat Hero can be anyone who puts on that hat everyday—from the broom pusher to the CEO. In my opinion, a Hard Hat Hero is not only someone who moves a project forward to ensure it gets done safely, on time and under budget, but someone who acts as a leader on and off the jobsite.

"The book Passion and I.C.E. by Stephen Stefano, has defined a leader for me. The key leadership qualities highlighted in the book––passion, integrity, courage, and empathy––have stuck with me. It is the combination of these key qualities that I believe make up a hero. Hard Hat Hero brings to light the women and men in the industry who have impacted their communities in great ways."

Know someone who fits this description? Nominate them as this year’s Hard Hat Hero! The first place winner will receive $5,000 to donate to a charity of their choice and will be invited to attend a NASCAR race where they’ll get to see their name and the name of their charity in racing stripes, printed on the car!
