Mitigate risk and measure what matters with new features for Procore BIM and Design Coordination

Procore BIM and Design Coordination help Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) teams efficiently connect with everyone on a project. We recently launched a performant 3D model viewer for field teams, giving them a more proactive approach to construction and a deeper level of understanding to the task at hand. Today, we’re introducing new features to both products that enhance the functionality that brings BIM to everyone in construction – all on one connected platform.

The most frequently cited challenges we hear from BIM teams are around communicating information as a project moves from Preconstruction to construction, and mobility – leveraging the model out in the field. BIM teams often reach model sign-off with outstanding RFIs, and it can be difficult to communicate these commitments when installation occurs months after coordination.

Measure what matters, and keep your BIM project moving
Procore BIM helps increase productivity by equipping field teams with access to reliable BIM data. Designed for the field, Procore BIM gives Superintendents and Project Engineers the ability to effectively validate both planned and installed work by referencing the coordinated model and taking a measurement.

Now, with just a few taps, users can measure the height and distance between objects within Procore BIM. Easily view a complex area using intuitive gestures to rotate 360 degrees around objects. International support included, users can take measurements in meters and millimeters.

Additionally, field teams need the ability to create field issues directly from their mobile devices. Procore BIM now enables Superintendents to create an observation when there is a conflict that needs to be tracked and communicated among field teams. Project Engineers can also quickly generate a coordination issue, include details, and assign it to the BIM team for review. From there BIM managers can elevate the issue directly to an RFI in Procore, connecting BIM and field teams on a single platform.

Deliver higher quality projects, and in a safer environment
BIM teams can now track commitments made among detailers and designers during the coordination process with the trades actually installing the work, by moving coordination issues to observations and assigning them to foreman as work to complete in the field. This functionality connects Procore Design Coordination and our Quality & Safety tools, allowing teams to correct issues before they become a problem.

“Using Design Coordination has substantially improved the collaboration between our BIM and Design teams. Whether an answer requires more than a simple clarification or needs to be documented, it’s simple to elevate it to an RFI,” said Dave Mood, Vice President, Harrell Fish Inc. “The time savings in collecting and sharing information is huge. Our use of Procore sets us apart on our projects as a leader in the mechanical industry.”

Procore Design Coordination empowers project teams to confidently sign-off a model. BIM managers can produce a detailed report of all elevated RFIs and field observations for documentation and to ensure everyone has a clear understanding of the remaining items to be resolved after sign-off.

Mitigate risk, and increase BIM project predictability
Design management doesn’t just happen in 3D – a large portion of coordination is still done by looking at the drawings or 2D views – Design Coordination equips BIM Managers with the ability to drop a pin in the drawings tool to flag where an existing coordination issue lives in the 3D model and where it’s located on the 2D drawing.

Procore’s unlimited users model lets BIM teams to freely invite all project stakeholders into Procore increasing accountability across the entire project team. When BIM is accessible to everyone, project teams can reduce rework, mitigate risk, and increase productivity.
